This position involves a coordination responsibility for livestock/forage extension programs in the major beef production region of south Florida. Specific efforts involve a close working relationship with state faculty, county extension faculty, government agencies, and allied industry representatives. Johns Arthington's personal extension program involves the education of producers on cost-effective methods for supplementing grazing beef cows. Special emphasis is placed on stress resistant, immune competence, and reproductive and growth performance.

Areas of expertise; USDA Food Regulations, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point systems, Niche marketing programs, fresh meat quality and youth programs in meats and livestock

Dr. Carr serves as coordinator for Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems training to meat and poultry processors in the state of Florida. Additionally, works to provides educational programs in meat and livestock evaluation to youth and food service personnel relative to food safety and quality.

Emphasis areas include supplementation, grazing, and nutrition-reproduction interaction. Leader of the Florida Beef Quality Assurance program. Writes publications and creates presentations covering beef cattle management, nutrition, grazing and feedstuff utilization.

Provide leadership for extension agents, agricultural teachers, training programs, and the expansion of Animal Science youth projects and activities - curriculum development and coordination. Recruits and advises Animal Science students. Write publications for project guides, lessons, and leader guides. Assist with conduct of livestock judging contests, shows, field days, and clinics. Develop visual aids to be used in training youth and/or adults. Responsible for statewide youth and adult equine education. Conduct programs for county faculty and equine clientele. Develop support material for equine education at the youth and adult level. Serve nationally through Regional, National and American Youth Horse Council.
