Management involves a considerable effort in technology transfer.
Our laboratory has transferred knowledge in the areas described
above to producers, veterinarians, and fellow scientists in both
the national and international arena. In addition to informal interactions
with producers, we have been very active in speaking engagements
with producer, veterinary, and scientific conferences.
An example of this technology effort involves
early studies with Dr. Maarten Drost (University of Florida, College
of Veterinary Medicine) to by-pass early embryo losses induced by
heat stress by the use of embryo transfer. This approach has been
extended to the use of timed-embryo transfer with the use of fresh
and frozen-thawed embryos produced in vitro. Dr. Peter Hansen's
laboratory (University of Florida, Department of Animal Sciences)
has examined strategies to improve embryo tolerance to heat stress.
