In an effort familiarize everyone with the Hog & Ham program and provide them with the background information needed for success, a workshop will be conducted before the beginning of the program. ALL youth are required to attend this workshop to participate in the Hog & Ham program (yes, even those who have completed recent programs).

Preregister by January 12, 2009

Participation is open to youth (12 and older as of 9-1-08), parents, leaders, agents, or anyone with interest in the Hog & Ham program. The information to be presented is vital to the youth getting something out of this program beyond a freezer full of pork.

The workshop is scheduled to be a full day program, beginning at 9:00 am, and going through ~3:30 pm (check-in at 8:30). Topics include an overview of the swine industry, sources and selection of feeder pigs, feeding & health management, the pork product, and insight on the other phases of the program (record book, demonstration, and retail audit). The full tentative schedule will be online here later.

In order to make the schedule as efficient as possible, lunch will be provided for everyone that attends. Therefore, there is a need for preregistration and a fee to cover lunch. County agents should complete this workshop preregistration form and return it to us by January 12. The $5 per person, youth and adult, can be mailed ahead or paid in person at the workshop.
